I’m Teejah, a Maryland-based wedding planner designing celebrations both close to home and across the globe. Truthfully, I can’t decide which I love more…the weddings hosted right here in my backyard or the ones that require passports, airport lounges, and a beautifully packed carry-on.
What I do know is this: there’s an unbridled joy I feel every time I’m trusted to help couples create a wedding experience that feels deeply personal, intentional, and timeless.
As both a wedding planner and someone with a background in accounting, I naturally view weddings through two lenses: the emotional and the practical. I understand the importance of budgeting wisely, but I also understand that the most memorable weddings are rarely defined by how much was spent. They’re defined by how people felt.
And that becomes even more important when planning a destination wedding.
Because when guests travel to celebrate with you, your wedding is more than a single-day event. It’s an experience; one that begins the moment they book their flight and lingers long after they return home.
The question then becomes:
Are you simply budgeting for the wedding itself, or are you intentionally investing in the experiences surrounding it?

The Most Meaningful Destination Weddings Feel Immersive
One of the beautiful things about destination weddings is the opportunity to create intentional connection and shared memories beyond the ceremony.
Your guests are stepping away from their routines, traveling to support and celebrate your love story. Thoughtfully considering your guests’ experience doesn’t mean you need to overproduce every moment or plan a packed itinerary. It simply means creating moments that feel welcoming and meaningful.
Sometimes the most impactful details are also the simplest:
- A thoughtfully curated welcome bag waiting in their room
- A relaxed cocktail hour on the first evening
- Transportation that removes stress and confusion
- Personalized touches that reflect your story and culture
- Building enough downtime into the schedule for guests to actually enjoy the destination
Budgeting Beyond the Wedding Day
One of the biggest misconceptions I see with destination wedding planning is couples allocating nearly the entire budget toward the ceremony and reception, while overlooking the guest experience as a whole.
Of course, your wedding day matters deeply. But destination weddings require a slightly different mindset because there are additional layers to consider:
- Travel coordination
- Guest accommodations
- Group experiences
- Welcome events
- Transportation logistics
- Communication and itinerary management
- Weather contingencies
- Vendor sourcing in unfamiliar locations
This is where thoughtful planning becomes invaluable.
As someone who genuinely enjoys both the creative and logistical side of weddings, I love helping couples determine where their investment will create the greatest impact. Sometimes that means scaling back in one area to create a more elevated experience in another.
For example:
Your guests may remember the warmth of a beautifully hosted welcome dinner long after they’ve forgotten the exact floral arrangements at the reception.
They may remember feeling cared for, relaxed, and fully immersed in the celebration because every detail felt intentional.
That feeling matters.
Curating Moments Your Guests Will Never Forget
The most memorable destination weddings are rarely built around a single “wow” factor. Instead, they’re created through layered moments that collectively tell a story.
A local live musician during cocktail hour.
Signature drinks inspired by your relationship.
A family-style dinner beneath the stars.
A beach day that allows everyone to reconnect before the wedding festivities begin.
Late-night dancing that turns into spontaneous laughter and unforgettable memories.
These experiences create emotional connection; not just for you, but for every person who traveled to celebrate alongside you.
And ultimately, that’s what destination weddings do so beautifully:
They bring people together in a way that feels intimate, immersive, and deeply personal.
Thoughtful Planning Creates Freedom
One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself during destination wedding planning is support.
Planning from afar comes with additional moving pieces, and while social media often highlights the beauty of destination weddings, there’s also an immense amount of coordination happening quietly behind the scenes.
My role is to help couples navigate both the vision and the logistics with intention and clarity, allowing them to remain fully present throughout the process and the celebration itself.
After all, your wedding experience shouldn’t feel overwhelming.
It should feel exciting, meaningful, and beautifully aligned with the life you’re building together.
Planning Your Own Destination Wedding?
Whether you’re envisioning an intimate beachfront celebration, a romantic European getaway, or a thoughtfully curated wedding weekend closer to home, my approach always begins the same way: with intention.
Because destination weddings are about so much more than beautiful scenery or stunning design details. They’re about creating an atmosphere that feels immersive, welcoming, and deeply personal from beginning to end.
If you’re ready to begin planning a celebration that prioritizes both beauty and experience, I would love to help you bring it to life.
